Which NHL player’s hot start deserves more recognition?

In this edition of The Hot Seat The Hockey Central panel debates who had the best celebration of the week, which player’s hot start deserves more recognition, which NHL players could play in the NFL, and more.

It didn’t take long for Giancarlo Stanton to make his mark on the 2024 World Series.

After the Los Angeles Dodgers opened the scoring in Game 1 on Friday night, the ALCS MVP continued his post-season excellence in the top of the sixth.

With two outs and Juan Soto on first, Stanton launched a two-strike Jack Flaherty curveball 412 feet to left to give the New York Yankees a 2-1 lead.

Not only was the blast impressive because it flipped the score but with a 116.6 m.p.h. exit velocity, it was the hardest-hit ball in the Statcast Era (Since 2015).

Stanton has now homered in four straight games this post-season, bringing his total in these playoffs to six and improving his career number to 17.

The “Stantonian” blast, as famed Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling calls his homers, moves the 34-year-old into a tie with Jim Thome, David Ortiz and Bryce Harper on the all-time post-season home run list. However, Stanton continues to move up the list in an unprecedented amount of time. No other player has homered more than 11 times in fewer than 40 playoff games and Friday is only Stanton’s 37th time suiting up in October.

With the former NL MVP providing an instant spark in what started out as a pitchers’ duel between Flaherty and Gerrit Cole, sport and baseball fans alike took to social media to give Stanton his flowers for providing yet another momentous swing for the Yankees.
