New coach Jesper Sorensen looking to ‘evolve’ Vancouver Whitecaps
The Vancouver Whitecaps have hired Denmark’s Jesper Sorensen as head coach ahead of the Major League Soccer season.
It didn’t take long for some Winnipeg Jets fans to lose their hats on Tuesday night.
With the Jets hosting the Vancouver Canucks, it took Kyle Connor just 13 minutes and 37 seconds of action to record a natural hat trick and give his team a 3-0 lead in the first period.
Connor’s hat trick was the second-fastest in franchise history and he also became just the third player in Jets history to score a first-period hat trick.
Connor opened the scoring seven minutes into the contest when Vancouver Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen misplayed the puck behind the and gifted the Jets forward an easy goal.

He then scored two goals just 36 seconds apart later in the period, with his third a beautiful breakaway goal that left Lankinen looking silly.
Not a bad night at the office, and he still had plenty of time left to add to his stat line.
It’s the 28-year-old forward’s sixth-career hat trick, and it puts him at 26 goals for the season which is good for third-best in the league behind only Florida Panthers forward Sam Reinhart (26) and Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl (31).
Connor’s previous high for goals in a season was 47 back in 2021-22.
