Canada’s Leylah Fernandez wins first-round match in Hong Kong
Leylah Fernandez is off to a strong start in Hong Kong.
Things couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start on Tuesday for the New York Yankees.
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, a pair of Yankees fans decided to take things into their own hands in the bottom half of the inning, earning a fan interference call and an early trip home.
New York’s leadoff hitter Glyber Torres lofted a fly ball down the right-field line on a 1-0 pitch, and Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Mookie Betts drifted over towards the bleachers, where he went up near the stands to make the catch.
However, the two Yankees fans sitting nearest to the Dodgers star reached over into the field of play, grabbing Betts and forcibly opening his glove to rip the ball out.
Fan interference was immediately called to rule Torres out. According to the broadcast, the two fans were also ejected following the play.
It was the second instance of fan interference in the series, as in Game 2 of the series, a Dodgers fan pulled a ball into the crowd on a drive to outfield wall from Torres.
