Former Canada soccer captain Christine Sinclair is headed to the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
Evgeni Malkin isn’t slowing down at age 38.
The Pittsburgh Penguins star scored his 500th career goal on Wednesday night against the Buffalo Sabres.
Malkin’s goal, on a pass from Sidney Crosby, early in the third period gave the Penguins a 4-3 lead. The entire Penguins bench cleared to celebrate with him after the goal.
Malkin becomes the 48th player in NHL history to hit the mark. He is the third Penguin, following current Crosby and Mario Lemieux.
Earlier in the game, Crosby reached the 1,600-point milestone with an assist on Bryan Rust’s goal. Malkin also had an assist on the play.
Pittsburgh is just the second team in the NHL to have three players at 500 goals – the Montreal Canadiens are the other with Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau and Maurice Richard.
Malkin accomplished the feat in his 1,150th career game, all of which have been with Pittsburgh. He now has 1,305 career points.
The Russian is off to a hot start this season with two goals and seven assists in five games.
