Ohtani thrives under pressure with electric post-season performance

Caleb Joseph joins Martine Gaillard and Katrina Squazzin to discuss Shohei Ohtani’s electric performance in his first post-season game in MLB against the San Diego Padres in which he hit a game-tying three-run shot in the second inning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers got some bad news on Sunday night as they tried to put together a comeback in Game 2 against the San Diego Padres.

Star first baseman Freddie Freeman was forced to leave the game due to ankle discomfort, stemming from a sprain he suffered towards the end of the regular season. Freeman was replaced in the Dodgers’ order by Enrique Hernández, who entered at third base and pushed Max Muncy to first.

On the Fox Sports broadcast, Ken Rosenthal confirmed the injury and said Freeman is considered day-to-day going forward in the series.

It was not apparent what tweaked Freeman’s ankle, but the 35-year-old was 0-for-2 with one strikeout in two trips to the plate. He was robbed by Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. on a running catch in the bottom of the fourth.

Freeman’s status was up in the air leading into Game 1, but the former NL MVP suited up and went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Los Angeles’s series-opening win.

The injury originally occurred on Sept. 26, when Freeman twisted his right ankle while trying to avoid a tag on the bases in a game against the Padres.

Before the post-season, Freeman told reporters that his sprain would usually be “a four-to-six week IL stint” and that it’s the worst injury he’s ever tried to play through.
